Maintenance for the Storm King® Overflow with Swirl-Cleanse™ Screen

Storm King® Overflow
The Storm King® Overflow has no moving parts and typically requires a maintenance commitment similar to that of the sewer system in which it is placed.

The maintenance requirement is dependent upon the influent characteristics which in turn are dependent upon the nature of the contributing catchment. For example, excessive fat in sewers may cause a build-up of fat over time within the Storm King® Overflow and Hydro-Brake Flow® Control chambers.

We recommend that the Storm King® Overflow is monitored for at least 6 months on a monthly basis to ensure that there are no unusual catchment characteristics. Thereafter it is suggested that the unit should be inspected on a half-yearly basis.

It is extremely important to ensure that there is no restriction within the underflow arrangement of the Storm King® Overflow. If such an occurrence is suspected then both the underflow pipe and downstream Hydro-Brake® Flow Control should be checked and any blockage removed.

Swirl-Cleanse™ Screen
The Swirl-Cleanse™ component constitutes the mesh panels, central down-pipe, screenings return Hydro-Brake® Flow Control and backwash siphon. During inspection, if the screenings panels are greater than 50% blinded, then they should be hosed down, while care is taken to ensure that any material deposits that are hosed off pass directly through the downstream Hydro-Brake® Flow Control and on to treatment.

If the screening panels are greater than 50% blinded the reason for this occurrence should be investigated. Typical reasons would comprise of storms in excess of design or downstream surcharge. Hydro International should be contacted if in doubt and will advise accordingly.
