Research & Development Engineer
Hydro International is seeking to recruit a Research & Development Engineer to join its small team based in Clevedon near Bristol. The role will be concerned with the development of new and existing technologies for urban water management and the provision of technical support to the company’s sales operations.
The ideal candidate should have a degree in Process, Civil, Mechanical or related Engineering field, possibly to postgraduate level. He/she should be academically astute, have good communication skills, commercial awareness and a willingness to engage in all aspects of the development process. Activities might include desktop and theoretical studies, conceptual design work, CFD simulation work, experimental work including field testing and work to convert R&D outputs into commercial products and support tools.Previous relevant experience would be an advantage, though an enthusiasm for environmental issues and a willingness to learn and take on new challenges are more important. Research Assistant – based at Liverpool JM University
Liverpool John Moores University is seeking to recruit a Research Assistant to work on projects that have been set up in collaboration with Hydro International. An initial one-year fixed term contract is offered, at a rate of £20,000 per annum, with possibly opportunities for supplementation through delivery of student tutorials.
Building on the outputs of previous collaborative projects between JMU and Hydro International, the Research Assistant will work on various activities concerned with the development of scientific insights into the operation of physical and biological treatment systems, with a view to identifying opportunities for enhancement. Extensive experimentation will be conducted at both JMU and possibly a municipal wastewater treatment site. Mathematical modelling will be used to develop the findings into tools that can be applied in full-scale design. A background in Civil or Environmental engineering or related field and knowledge of wastewater treatment principles and mathematical modelling will be a distinct advantage. Above all, a practical individual who can manage the full research process, from designing and constructing test facilities, through to carrying out testing and interpreting and presenting the results is sought. There may be opportunities to register for a higher degree for the right candidate, subject to funding availability.
