Performance
The Storm King Overflow with Swirl-Cleanse Screen provides not only screening but also the removal of fine suspended solids, grit and silt. It consists of a combination of a hydrodynamic vortex separator topped with a self-cleansing 6 mm mesh screen.
A hydrodynamic separator is a high rate device typically designed to remove over 95% of all grit and silt, together with finer fecal material and associated BOD.
The sizing of a Storm King Overflow with Swirl-Cleanse Screen is not simply related to the inflow rate, but is also a function of the desired removal performance with regard to the fine suspended solids. Computer modeling utilizing data from site sampling can be used to accurately predict performance based upon the specific catchment characteristics upstream of the intended location.
Device Selection
NOTE: The decision to choose between the Hydro-Static® Screen, the Hydro-Jet® Screen or the Heliscreen® should be based upon the design spill frequency and catchment characteristics. Hydro's whole-life cost models indicate that for spills less than 6 times a year a simple Hydro-Static® Screen is the more cost-effective. However, spill frequencies greater than 6 times per year require excessive maintenance. In these applications, because of their self-cleansing attributes, the Hydro-Jet® Screen and Heliscreen® have proved more cost-effective.
