Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is it?
A. The Downstream Defender® is a vortex separator that is incorporated into a reinforced concrete manhole; the system is designed to remove settleable solids, grits and silts, oil and floatables from stormwater runoff.
Q. What are the sizes available? What size do I need? What does it weigh?
A. We produce 4 standard sizes: 4, 6, 8, and 10 feet. Performance details of each model are outlined in the Downstream Defender flyer . Please inquire for pick weights.
Q. Is the Downstream Defender an equivalent to an oil collector?
A. The Downstream Defender has been independently tested and has been found to meet the requirements required for a Class II oil collector. For sites where a Class I collector is required, the Downstream Defender will still be a useful addition as a 'first line of defense'. If it is installed before the collector it will remove sediment to ensure that the collector operates to its maximum efficiency.
Q. Can it be modified from the specifications shown in the brochure?
A. The Downstream Defender cannot be modified as it relies on certain critical dimensions and minimum pipe sizes in order to function correctly. |
