Grit-Cleanse™ (Series
4 Classifier)
An enhanced classifier to separate the grit and organics
from water to reduce faecal matter and overcome problems
with high turndown ratios.
The Grit-Cleanse™ is generally manufactured from stainless
steel grade 304L or grade 316L and is an enhanced Series
3 Classifier with a 'mini' dynamic separator over the top
of the classifier hopper .
The principle of the process relies on the use of a 'mini'
dynamic separator located over the hopper. The
separator is fed at a continuous hydraulic loading rate from
the grit removal process such as the Grit King® Separator
at a flow of 20 l/s
.
Flow enters the vessel via a tangential intake pipe to set
up a rotary flow pattern within the unit. Lighter organic
material is separated from the dense grit material by the
process of dynamic separation.
Grits are discharged into the reception chamber from the
base of the vessel. Organic material is discharged through
the top of the dynamic separator. A Hydro-Brake® Flow
Control is placed in the base of the vessel to provide the
flow split between overflow and underflow.
A maximum of 10 l/s is discharged into the reception chamber
where the standard screw classification takes place.
A spray bar can also be mounted over the inclined screw
for final washing of the grit prior to discharge to a grit
skip.
The selection of a Series 3 Classifier or a Grit-Cleanse™ is dependant upon the performance requirement for faecal
organics in the discharged grit and the ratio of peak flow
to Dry Weather Flow (DWF) of the site.
The unit is normally used as part of the Grit King® Process
however it is also used as a stand alone unit on small Sewage
Treatment Works.
