RotoMaster

A robust, rotary drum thickener for sludge thickening and sludge dewatering.

The first prototype of the RotoMaster rotary drum thickener/dewaterer was developed by Siljan Stainless AB of Sweden and was taken into service in a Swedish sewage treatment plant in 1988. The resulting performance proved to be excellent. Since then some 130 units have been successfully installed in municipal WWTP, paper mills, chemical and food industries throughout the world.

RotoMaster Function: The sludge to be thickened/dewatered, is flocculated into larger particles using a polyelectrolyte mixed and controlled by associated technology like POLYSAVE. The flocculated sludge is then fed into the rotating drum within the RotoMaster. This drum is covered by a synthetic filter cloth that is slowly rotated allowing the water to pass through while the sludge particles stay within the drum. To keep the filter cloth clean, it is intermittently sprayed with water from a fixed spray bar.

Consumption of the flocculent is controlled and kept at a low level. While many factors e.g. drum rotor speed, sludge type and concentration, polyelectrolyte would be expected to affect the DS content, the RotoMaster consistently thickens sludge to 5-12% dry solids content with a minimum of operator input.
