Frequently Asked Questions

Zickert Bottom Sludge Scraper

Q. Why use a Zickert bottom sludge scraper?

A. It is low profile, hard wearing, few moving parts, simple to install and easy operate. They can be particularly effective under lamella settlement tanks where their robustness is a positive advantage.

Q. What thickness sludge can I expect?

The sludge generated by the Zickert scraper system is similar to that of conventional sedimentation processes. If the Zickert is used more than is required to transport the sludge through the tank then the reciprocating action thickens the sludge further. 1% to 3% dry solids sludge is often achieved.

Q. How is the scraper powered?

A. There are two power systems, either an electrical drive for small area tanks, or hydraulic drivers for any size tank.

Q. How even does the tank floor have to be?

A set tolerance is required on the floor of the tank, but imperfections, anti flotation valves and support pillars can all be accommodated, as the scraper is built in-situ.

Q. What is largest Zickert floor scraper available?

A. A single Zickert can scraper up to 750 m2 of tank floor area.

Q. My tank is larger than 750 m2, what can I do?

More than one scraper can be installed in a single tank.

Zickert Surface Scum Scraper

Q. What is the key advantage of the Zickert surface scum scraper system?

A. Lower profile, tank walls remain free of any rails, huge saving on any covering requirements!

Q. What is the maximum width of a single scraper?

The maximum width for one scraper is 12 m.

Q. My tank is over 12 m wide, what can I do?

A. More than one scraper can be used to cover the entire width of the tank.

Q. What options do I have for scum removal?

The Zickert scraper can be used with a tipping scum tube, a scum beach or a scum weir, we are
also able to supply these products to ensure total compatibility.
